i own a shop and the best paint i know of is polyurethane, and its tough stuff but pretty expensive also ,and I'm not sure it would even hold up good on a steering wheel,it could be the best solution would be to get a thin cover for it,there's some of the thin leather ones that look and feel really good ,and last a long time, i had one on my dodge for about 5 years, and i finally changed it,but that may be the answer to it if its in a spot that you don't touch very often the paint would work really good, that's the only kind of paint i use any way is ppg polyurethane, and have had real good luck from it good luck hope this helps. Is thier such a paint to paint your steering wheel after it is eat up by a wondering finger nail?
your welcome.

I think latex paint would work. but if it is a leather steering wheel you should be able to stain it back.
