Does plucking a string with your finger nail increase/decrease frequency?

is there a difference in frequency between a gentle pluck with the soft part of the finger and a twang with the finger nail?Does plucking a string with your finger nail increase/decrease frequency?
the difference is not necessarily in the frequencys which are activated, but the ratios. soft finger plucks tend to favor the lower harmonics of the string while sharp quick plucks tend to favor the higher harmonics of the string. When you pluck with a pick youre giving the string a more ballanced harmonic range while when you pluck with the fleshy part of the finger, youre dulling the higher harmonics, allowing the softer lower frequencies to ring though. hope this helps :)Does plucking a string with your finger nail increase/decrease frequency?
It doesn't increase/decrease the frequency at all. The frequency is what determines the pitch of the note, which is determined by the weight, length, and tightness of the string.

What WOULD be affected is the amplitude and clarity. The sound is going to be sharper if struck by the nail than by the finger. Think of it in terms of a rubber mallet vs a steel hammer.
