they sell special ones specifically for cat nails. but them. theyre easier and safer to use.Is it safe to cut a cats paws with a finger nail clipper?
Not really. The clippers designed for animals are curved to conform to the shape of their claws. Clippers designed for people are flat and can cause damage to the claw because it actually has to crush it in order to cut it. This can cause them to flake and split which can lead to infections. You're far better off buying a set of clippers designed for your pet.Is it safe to cut a cats paws with a finger nail clipper?
You mean their claws? Yes. Just be sure it is sharp enough and you know what you are doing. I do this with my cats twice a month. Just be sure you are careful and don't cut down too far and hit a blood vessel. Here's how to do it...
I usually use small/baby human nail clippers when I cut my cat's claws. Just push gently on the cat's paws to make the claws extend, and clip the tips, making sure not to cut the quick (they bleed and the cat WILL let you know!). Might help to have a second person holding the cat while you cut the nails, though I have one cat who rolls onto his back while I clip his nails. Hope you have more of the latter! Good luck =)
PAWS no, but CLAWS, yes.
We use a regular one for most of our cats, but some of the back nails are too thick to fit in the open section of the clippers so I had to look around for one that opened wider. They cut cleanly, and do a good job. We normally trim our cats claws once ever two weeks, just taking the tips off and making sure not to cut into the 'quick' where the blood supply is.
Yes, but you gotta make sure you don't cut it to short or they will start to bleed.
Yes, just make sure that you don't cut them too short. If you look at your cats claws you can sometimes see a pink section in the claw, if you cut too close to that (the quick) it will bleed, so be careful.
They do make special clippers but I always found them harder to use.
I'm going to assume you mean to clip their nails with a people nail clipper? Yes, you can if it's a good quality one and you're only taking the tips of the nails off. Be very careful to not take too much off - I'm sure you're aware of the fact that taking too much off can 'quick' them and cause the nail to bleed? Just wanted to mention that in case that was something that someone else out there didn't know about.
